The 20 Pesos Uruguayos note was part of a broader redesign of Uruguay's lower denominations in the 2010s, as the Banco Central moved to update a series that had remained largely unchanged since the early 2000s. Oberthur Fiduciaire, operating out of their Chantepie facility near Rennes, handled production — a common choice for Latin American central banks seeking European security printing without the premiums attached to De La Rue or Giesecke+Devrient.
The watermark remains the sole listed security feature, which is notably minimal for a note printed as late as 2015.
