正面描述 Central field features a raised inner circle containing a detailed high-relief depiction of a Maya ballplayer (jugador de pelota) in a dynamic crouching stance, adorned with an elaborate feathered headdress, arm guards, and sandals, rendered in a style derived from Classic Maya iconography. Flanking the figure to the left are the denomination numeral '20' and peso sign '$', while Mayan glyph cartouches appear to the right and upper left of the figure. The legend 'CULTURA MAYA' arcs along the upper periphery, with the date '1980' at the bottom and the Mexico City mint mark 'Mo' below the date. The entire design is encircled by a decorative border of repeating stepped fret motifs evoking pre-Columbian architectural ornamentation.

附加信息

Produced by the Casa de Moneda as part of a broad experimental program in the late 1970s and early 1980s testing both designs and alloy compositions ahead of a major coinage modernization, this uniface copper pattern was never intended for circulation. The Jugador de Pelota — referencing the pre-Columbian ballgame whose ritual significance extended across Mesoamerica for millennia — was among several indigenous motifs evaluated for a new 20 Peso denomination during this period. The Pollock reference 51B distinguishes this copper strike from companion pieces in other metals.
