Obverse description The copper-nickel centre displays the Mexican national coat of arms in high relief: an eagle perched on a prickly pear cactus, grasping a serpent in its beak and talons, above a wreath of oak and laurel branches tied with a ribbon at the base. The brass outer ring bears the national legend ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS arranged in a curved arc along the upper periphery. The overall design follows the standard heraldic presentation used on contemporary Mexican coinage.
