| 正面描述 | Multicolour note in orange, black and grey with an orange lace-pattern border. At upper centre, a central vignette shows a seated male figure resting beside a ship's anchor and nautical implements. To the left, a portrait vignette of a woman in early 19th-century dress is set within a geometric frame, with the denomination numeral '20' in an ornate diamond panel below. The bank title 'BANCO NACIONAL' appears in large letterpress across the centre, with the denomination 'VEINTE PESOS FUERTES' below it, followed by manuscript-style text referencing the issuing law and date 'Agosto 1° de 1873', and two manuscript signatures at the foot. |

| 背面描述 | Printed entirely in blue, the reverse displays an elaborate guilloche lattice pattern at centre, surrounded by a series of circular medallion vignettes containing allegorical and heraldic motifs including scales of justice, shields, anchors and agricultural symbols. The word 'VEINTE' is repeated in each corner within ornamental panels, and a fine lace-style border frames the entire design. A rectangular cancellation stamp reading 'CONCEPCION DEL URUGUAY' is impressed vertically at the right side. |

The Banco Nacional of Argentina — not to be confused with the later Banco Nacional that operated from 1872 to 1876 under national charter — issued this note during a period when the Argentine government was actively trying to consolidate provincial banking chaos under a single national framework. That project failed. The bank collapsed amid severe liquidity problems, and much of its remaining note stock was either redeemed at a discount or simply never returned from circulation.
ABNC's involvement places this squarely in the period when Buenos Aires institutions were almost entirely dependent on North American engravers for secure currency production. No comparable domestic facility existed.
