| Obverse description | The nickel brass centre features the Mexican national arms in high relief: an eagle displayed sinister, perched upon a prickly pear cactus growing from a rock amid water, devouring a serpent in its beak and talons. The device is rendered in fine detail with feathering and foliage clearly articulated. The aluminium bronze outer ring bears the national legend ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS arcing across the upper field, with a decorative laurel and oak wreath tied with a ribbon at the base. |

| Reverse description | The nickel brass centre presents a stylised portrait bust of Emiliano Zapata Salazar facing slightly left, wearing his characteristic wide-brimmed sombrero, with the revolutionary motto TIERRA Y LIBERTAD inscribed across the hat brim. A figure of a campesino ploughing with an ox is depicted in the lower left field, accompanied by radiating lines suggestive of sunrise, evoking agrarian reform. A latent image security feature appears as a rectangular element to the right of the portrait. The denomination $20 is prominently displayed in large numerals at the bottom of the centre, flanked by the commemorative dates 1919 and 2019 marking the centenary of Zapata's death. The aluminium bronze ring carries the legend EMILIANO ZAPATA SALAZAR arcing around the upper field, with the mint mark Mo at the left. |
