Obverse description The Mexican national coat of arms occupies the copper-nickel centre field, depicting a Mexican golden eagle perched on a prickly-pear cactus growing from a rock in a lake, grasping a serpent in its beak and right talon. The design is rendered in high relief with fine detail to the plumage and cactus pads. The national legend ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS arcs along the upper portion of the outer brass ring, while a decorative wreath composed of oak branches to the left and laurel branches to the right is tied at the base of the ring.
