Obverse description The obverse is printed in dark grey-black on a light ground, with a central vignette of a seated female allegorical figure at left-centre, resting beside an industrial harbour scene with cranes and shipping. A circular medallion at left carries the Coat of Arms of Guatemala with the legend REPUBLICA DE GUATEMALA. The denomination 20 appears in large numerals at both upper corners, and the word VEINTE PESOS runs along the lower border. The note bears a date of 15 de Enero de 1918 and was issued at Quezaltenango, with serial numbers printed in red at centre.

Reverse description The reverse is printed entirely in red on a light ground, dominated by an elaborate guilloche underprint with large ornamental numerals 20 at both left and right. A central circular vignette carries the Coat of Arms of Guatemala, surrounded by intricate lathe-work scrollwork and floral ornaments. The bank name and issuing city arc along the upper portion, while VEINTE PESOS is rendered in bold letters along the lower border. The printer's imprint of Waterlow & Sons Limited, London Wall, London, E.C. appears in small type at the base.
