正面描述 Printed in dark olive-brown on white paper, the obverse carries the institution's full title 'BANCO HIPOTECARIO DE LA PROVINCIA DE BUENOS AIRES' in bold letterpress across the top, with the numeral '20' repeated in the upper corners. To the left of the central text block, a circular vignette bears the coat of arms of the Province of Buenos Aires, while the body text sets out the note's legal basis — 'Este bono al portador emitido con arreglo a la Ley de 14 de Julio de 1891 representa VEINTE PESOS MONEDA NACIONAL DE CURSO LEGAL'. The lower margin records the place of issue 'LA PLATA' and date 'JULIO N° 1891', with manuscript signatures for the Inspector and the Presidente, and a numbered red serial panel marked 'PRIMERA EMISIÓN' at right.

背面描述 Printed entirely in green, the reverse is dominated by a dense central text block reproducing the articles of the 'Ley de 14 de Julio de 1891' governing the redemption and amortisation of these mortgage bonds. Guilloche numeral '20' vignettes occupy each corner, with an oversized '20' underprint centred behind the legal text. The printer's imprint 'TALLERES DEL BANCO DE LA PLATA' appears at the foot.

备注

The Banco Hipotecario de la Provincia de Buenos Aires was a mortgage bank, not a commercial one — its notes were backed by land rather than specie or government bonds. The 1891 date places this squarely in the aftermath of the Baring Crisis, when Argentina's financial system collapsed under speculative debt and the country was effectively insolvent. Provincial mortgage banks continued issuing paper during this period, though confidence in their instruments varied sharply by region.

Printed in-house by the Talleres del Banco de la Plata, this is one of relatively few Argentine provincial issues produced domestically rather than contracted to European printers like Bradbury Wilkinson or the American Bank Note Company.
