The Magyar Nemzeti Bank's 1930 series was printed during a period of relative monetary stabilization following Hungary's hyperinflationary collapse of 1922–1924, which had rendered the korona worthless and necessitated the introduction of the pengő in 1927. This 20 pengő note belongs to the first generation of pengő issues designed to project institutional credibility after that crisis.
With over twelve million printed, this is not a scarce note in absolute terms, though wartime attrition and the 1946 currency replacement — when the pengő itself was obliterated by what remains the worst hyperinflation ever recorded — destroyed much of the surviving stock.
