Obverse description The fifth definitive portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, as sculpted by Jody Clark, occupies the centre of the obverse field, depicting a right-facing effigy of the Queen wearing the George IV State Diadem, pearl drop earrings, and a necklace. The mature, unidealized likeness captures fine detail in the hair and crown jewels against a finely guillochéd background. The circular legend reads ELIZABETH II around the upper field, with D·G·REG·F·D· and the denomination 20 PENCE distributed around the lower periphery, all in raised Latin lettering separated by raised dots.

Additional information

Introduced as part of the Royal Mint's Britannia bullion series, these small-denomination silver pieces occupy an odd commercial niche — technically legal tender at face value, practically purchased as fractional silver at a significant premium over spot. The 20 pence denomination was chosen to anchor the fractional Britannia range below the half-ounce and quarter-ounce issues, giving small-budget stackers a Royal Mint entry point.

Jody Clark's fifth portrait of Elizabeth II, adopted across British coinage from 2015, appears here in its final years before the Queen's death in September 2022 ended the run mid-series.
