Additional information

The 2008 reverse redesign — executed by Matthew Dent — was the most significant overhaul of British circulation coinage in decades. Six denominations were redrawn so that each coin displays a fragment of the Royal Shield, the complete achievement only visible when the coins are arranged together. The concept was chosen from over 4,000 competition entries.

The silver proof version was struck for collectors from the outset, as the redesign generated considerable public interest.
