| 正面描述 | The fourth definitive effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II faces right, rendered by Ian Rank-Broadley in a finely detailed, high-relief portrait. The Queen is depicted crowned and draped, wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland tiara. The circumferential legend reads ELIZABETH II DEI GRA REG FID DEF followed by the date of issue, with the engraver's initials IRB discretely positioned below the truncation of the neck. The design conveys regal authority consistent with the mature numismatic portrait standard adopted for British coinage from 1998 onward. |

The Royal Shield reverse, designed by Matthew Dent, was selected through an open public competition in 2005 and introduced across the circulating coinage in 2008 — the first complete redesign of the reverse suite since decimalization in 1971. Dent's concept was unusual: the shield of the Royal Arms was split across multiple denominations, with each coin carrying one quartered section and the pound coin assembling the full composition.
The gold proof version follows the circulating design exactly, a deliberate policy choice that distinguishes these strikes from commemorative issues with bespoke artwork.
