| 背面描述 | A detailed montage evoking Medieval Norse history, depicting arms and armour dating from the 9th to the 13th centuries. The composition includes a winged helmet, breastplate, broadswords, spears, battle axes, daggers, and a targe (shield) bearing the emblem of a lymphad or galley. The design, executed by Leslie Lindsay, fills the heptagonal field with finely engraved heraldic and martial imagery referencing the Viking Age heritage of the Isle of Man. The denomination 20 appears as the sole reverse legend. |

The Isle of Man's Manx coinage program in the early 1980s was unusually aggressive in producing precious metal variants of circulating denominations — a deliberate policy by the Manx treasury to capture collector and investor revenue independent of the UK's monetary framework. This 20 pence piece in .917 gold is one such product: a struck bullion-collector issue sharing its specification with a broader family of gold Manx coins from the same years, produced under the authority of the Pobjoy Mint.
The Schön listings distinguish two die varieties within the 1982–83 production run.
