| Obverse description | Central device depicts the Portuguese armillary sphere rendered as a stylized globe with meridian and parallel lines, upon which the Macau coat of arms — featuring the Portuguese royal shield charged with five escutcheons and seven castles — is superimposed in the field. The legend MACAU arcs along the upper border, flanked on either side by a five-pointed star, while Chinese characters reading 澳門 (Macau) appear at the right and 貳拾圓 (twenty patacas) at the left. The denomination 20 PATACAS is inscribed along the lower border, with the engraver's signature M.NORTE. SCVL. incused at the lower right. |
