The Banco Nacional Ultramarino served as Macau's currency authority until 1995, when the Autoridade Monetária e Cambial de Macau took over note issuance — which makes the 1996–1999 date range on this Pick 66 series worth pausing over. The BNU continued printing and distributing notes under contract after losing its central bank status, a transitional arrangement that created genuine ambiguity about institutional authority during the handover period leading up to 1999 Portuguese withdrawal.
The printed date of 30 April 1945 is almost certainly a plate date inherited from an earlier design cycle, not the actual print run date for notes circulating in the late 1990s.
