| Obverse description | Central field bears a multi-line Arabic tughra-style inscription reading 'Sultan Mahmud Khan, may he be victorious' together with the regnal year numeral 22, rendered in bold calligraphic script. The inscription is arranged in a dense, stacked format characteristic of Ottoman hammered coinage of the early 19th century. The entire design is enclosed within a prominent toothed or beaded border running continuously around the coin's circumference. The field surrounding the legend is flat and largely unadorned, consistent with the utilitarian hammered technique. The overall style reflects the provincial Ottoman mint tradition of Tripoli. |
