| Obverse description | Central field dominated by the elaborate Ottoman imperial tughra of Sultan Mahmud II, rendered in the characteristic calligraphic style with interlocking loops and vertical shaft rising above the body of the cipher. The mint name and regnal year appear in Arabic legend below the tughra, reading 'Struck in Tripoli West 1223.' The coin is struck on a slightly irregular flan with a beaded border visible along the rim. |
