| Reverse description | The reverse of the host Ottoman 20 Para coin bears the standard mint and date legends in Arabic script, arranged in circular fashion around the field, reading 'ضرب في قسطنطينية' (Struck in Constantinople) with the accession year ١٢٧٧ (AH 1277). Prominently applied over this reverse is the rectangular Greek countermark bearing the incuse letters ΑΓ in bold Latin-style characters, identifying this piece as validated for circulation by the Provisional Government of Greece. The countermark is deeply and clearly struck, dominating the central field and partially obscuring the underlying Ottoman legends. The coin retains a toothed rim and shows typical circulation wear on both the host coin's original design and the applied countermark. |
