| Obverse description | The obverse displays the royal coat of arms of the Kingdom of Tonga centrally positioned within a beaded inner border. The arms feature a quartered shield incorporating a star of David with a central white cross, three six-pointed stars in the upper quarters, crossed swords and a dove in the lower quarters, flanked by elaborate scrollwork supporters. Above the shield, a royal crown is depicted between two laurel branches, while two Tongan national flags on staffs are crossed behind the crest. A ribbon bearing the national motto in Tongan script appears at the base of the arms. The curved legend KINGDOM OF TONGA arcs along the upper periphery, with the date 1999 displayed at the bottom of the field, all within a dotted border. |
