The 1992 "Nuevos Pesos" series marked Mexico's monetary redenomination — 1,000 old pesos became 1 new peso — a direct consequence of the inflationary spiral that had eroded the currency through the 1980s. The "Nuevos" prefix was itself a transitional measure, used only until 1996 when the modifier was quietly dropped and the peso reclaimed its unqualified name.
Banco de México printed this series in-house, part of a broader institutional push to consolidate domestic production rather than rely on foreign security printers. The P#100 designation covers multiple signature varieties across the series run.
