背面描述 Three elaborately decorated traditional tatala (cinedkeran) outrigger canoes of the Tao (Yami) people of Orchid Island depicted in low relief, overlapping one another and filling the inner copper-nickel disc. The prows of the canoes are adorned with stylised carved ornamental finials. Flanking the canoes in the outer aluminium bronze ring are four symmetrically placed millet ear sprigs. The numeral '20' appears prominently at the upper left of the outer ring, and the Chinese character 圓 (yuan/dollar) at the upper right, together forming the denomination. Two small raised dots appear at the base of the outer ring.

附加信息

Taiwan's 20-dollar denomination was introduced in 2001 partly to reduce wear on the 100-dollar note, which the central bank found was cycling through the economy faster than comparable banknotes in neighboring countries. The bimetallic construction was chosen specifically for machine-readability in transit systems — Taipei's MRT network was expanding rapidly at the time and fare gates needed reliable coin discrimination. The denomination never fully displaced the note it was meant to replace.
