MUSE — Monnaie à Usage Solidaire et Écologique — is a local complementary currency that emerged from the alternative economics movement in the Creuse département of France. Like most French monnaies locales of the early 2010s, it operates on a convertible model: one MUSE equals one euro, exchangeable at participating member businesses within the network. The fritillaires and goganes referenced in the series name are both local vernacular terms rooted in the Creuse region, the latter being an old dialect word for a type of mushroom.
