The 1922 20 Markkaa was produced domestically at a time when Finland was still consolidating its monetary infrastructure following independence in 1917. Printing in-house rather than contracting abroad was a deliberate policy — the Finnish Government Printing Office had been steadily building its intaglio capability through the early 1920s, and this series reflects that transitional competence.
The Litt A-C suffix designates successive letter series within the issue, a control mechanism Suomen Pankki used to track print runs without altering the base design. Litt C notes are noticeably harder to find, suggesting a shorter print run or heavier redemption rate in that tranche.
