The 1993 series marked Setec Oy's consolidation as Finland's dedicated security printer — the Helsinki-based firm had been producing Finnish banknotes since the late 1980s, handling the full production chain domestically rather than contracting to established foreign printers like De La Rue or Giesecke & Devrient, which remained unusual among smaller European nations at the time.
The "Litt. A" designation indicates the first printing run of this denomination within the series, a Finnish central bank convention used to track production batches for internal accountability. Finland retired the entire markka series when euro notes entered circulation in January 2002.
