Finland's post-independence monetary consolidation produced a series of notes that leaned heavily on domestic printing capacity — the Finnish Government Printing Office had been producing stamps and official documents for decades, but banknote production at this scale was relatively new ground. The 1922 series reflects that transition: competent work, but lacking the intaglio depth that characterized notes contracted out to Waterlow or American Bank Note.

Pick 44 was issued during a period of manageable inflation — nothing like the catastrophic monetary collapses occurring simultaneously in Germany or Hungary — which meant these notes actually circulated hard and for years. Worn survivors are the rule, not the exception.
