| 背面描述 | A three-quarter facing bust of Martin Luther is depicted in high relief, showing him draped in clerical robes and holding a closed Bible clasped in both hands before him. The portrait is rendered in a naturalistic academic style, capturing Luther's mature features with careful attention to drapery and texture. The curved legend 'MARTIN LUTHER' arcs across the upper field, flanked by a dot ornament, with the birth and death years '1483 - 1546' continuing the arc to the right. The engraver's initial 'R' appears in the lower left field. |

This piece was struck to assess feasibility for the official 20 Mark Luther commemorative issued that same year, marking the 500th anniversary of Luther's birth. The production coin ultimately appeared in both copper-nickel and silver versions; this pattern represents one stage in that approval process. East German pattern coinage from this period was produced in extremely limited numbers at the Staatliche Münze Berlin, with most examples retained in official collections rather than released through normal channels.
Jäger pattern designations for DDR issues remain inconsistently documented — collector populations are thin and auction appearances rarer still.
