Obverse description Unadorned bare head of Grand Duke Carl Alexander of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach facing left, with finely detailed hair and a short mustache. The mint mark 'A' (Berlin Mint) appears at the bottom of the field below the truncation. A circular legend surrounds the effigy, separated from the border by a continuous inner ring of beads. The portrait is rendered in a naturalistic, late 19th-century academic style.
