Obverse description The obverse features the state emblem of the German Democratic Republic centrally positioned in the field: a hammer and compass encircled by a wreath of rye ears, rendered in fine relief. The mint mark 'A' (Berlin Mint) appears above the emblem. The circular legend 'DEUTSCHE DEMOKRATISCHE REPUBLIK' runs along the upper periphery, flanked by two small star-shaped ornaments at the lower left and right. The denomination '20' is prominently displayed in large numerals at the bottom centre, with 'MARK' to the right and the date '1990' to the left, both at the lower register.
