The large denomination numeral '20' occupies the centre in bold Gothic lettering, flanked by 'Mark' to the right. A two-line Low German verse in a decorative cartouche band appears below the numeral, with the serial number prefixed 'No.' at lower left. | Beschrijving keerzijde | Printed in dark brown on tan paper, the reverse carries a large central vignette with a left-facing portrait bust of the Low German poet Gustav Kohne, rendered in an expressive woodcut-like style with hatched shading, wearing a broad-brimmed hat; his name appears on a diagonal ribbon banner to the right. A decorative oak-branch panel flanks the portrait on the left. Above the vignette, a Low German motto in bold Fraktur runs the full width of the note, with a second line of verse below. The imprint 'Niedersächsische Dichterserie No. 1.' appears at lower left and 'DRUCK: GEBR. JÄNECKE / HANNOVER' at lower right, with the artist's signature 'Chr. Prelle 22' within the vignette. |
