Obverse description Dark red letterpress Notgeld on cream paper, framed by a fine toothed border. The central vignette is a satirical illustration in woodcut style divided into three registers: the upper portion carries a lengthy German verse lamenting municipal taxation; the middle register presents a theatrical scene inside a structure labelled 'Steuerfabrik' (tax factory), in which a top-hatted figure operates a grinding machine while prostrate citizens are squeezed of their money, with denomination panels reading '20 Mark' flanking the scene; at lower left a kneeling figure gathers scattered banknotes. The denomination '20 Mark' appears in large Gothic script in panels to the left and right of the central vignette.

Reverse description Dark red letterpress on cream paper within a toothed outer border. The town arms of Niederlahnstein — a vertically striped shield bearing an anchor — appear in mirror image at left and right, each flanked by foliate ornament and surmounted by a crenellated tower motif. A central arched vignette presents a riverside view of a Gothic church or monastery seen across water, with a sailing boat in the foreground. Diamond-shaped value cartouches inscribed 'Gut für 20 Mark' are positioned at lower left and right. The issuer name 'Stadt Niederlahnstein' runs in large Gothic lettering across the lower margin, with the printer credit 'Schickel, Oberlahnstein' at lower left and the designer credit 'W. GRAEB' at lower right.
