Lauenburg in Pommern — today Lębork in Poland — was a small Prussian town with no business issuing its own emergency currency, yet by late 1918 the collapse of normal coin circulation had forced hundreds of German municipalities into exactly that position. This note is part of the broader Notgeld wave that swept Germany in the final year of the war, when small-denomination metal coinage had effectively vanished from everyday trade.
Municipal Notgeld from Pomeranian towns of this size was rarely printed in large quantities, and redemption after stabilization was often incomplete.
