Beschrijving voorzijde The upper portion carries a blue guilloche-bordered vignette at centre within a circular frame, enclosing a figure of a blacksmith at an anvil — a reference to Ruhla's traditional craft industries — flanked by two smaller circular medallions each containing a classical female figure. The denomination '20' appears in red on either side of the central vignette. The lower half bears the value 'Zwanzig Mark' in large Gothic blackletter script in red, with ornate red decorative initials, followed by the issuing authority's redemption pledge, the place and date of issue, two manuscript signatures of the Gemeindevorständ, and a serial number at lower left. The border is framed with repeating guilloche patterns and carries the inscription 'Kriegs-Notgeld' along the top and bottom edges.
Opschrift voorzijde KRIEGS-NOTGELD / Notgeld der Städte Ruhla / 20 20 / Zwanzig Mark / Die Städte Ruhla verpflichten sich zur Einlösung oder Umtausch bis spätestens 1. Februar 1919. / Ruhla, den 20. November 1918. / Die Gemeindevorständ. / KRIEGS-NOTGELD
Beschrijving keerzijde The reverse is printed in pale blue-green and carries a large central vignette of three figures in period costume — a blacksmith with hammer at left, a cook tending a roasting spit at centre, and a hunter at right — rendered in a crosshatched engraving style against a lightly ruled background. Above the vignette, a banner scroll bears the motto 'Landgraf, werde hart!' The denomination '20 Mark' appears in the vertical side borders. An overprinted text block in Gothic script occupies the centre, extending the note's validity period to 3 May 1920, dated Ruhla, 3 April 1920, and bearing two printed signature facsimiles of the joint municipal authorities.
