The central vignette presents a panoramic colour view of Maulbronn town and its celebrated Cistercian monastery complex, with red-roofed buildings and a church spire set amid wooded hills under a warm sky. Amtskörperschaft Maulbronn was a small district-level administrative body in Württemberg, and its decision to issue emergency currency in 1918 reflects the near-total breakdown of coin and small-denomination note supply in Germany's final war year.
