Additional information

Issued to commemorate Oghuz Khan, the semi-mythological ancestor-figure of the Oghuz Turkic peoples and a central pillar of Turkmen national identity as constructed under the Niyazov and later Berdymukhamedov administrations. Turkmenistan's post-independence cultural program aggressively promoted Oghuz Khan alongside the Ruhnama as founding mythological touchstones, and commemorative gold issues formed part of that broader state-directed heritage project.

The .916 fineness places this squarely in the 22-karat crown gold tradition — the same alloy standard used across much of British and Ottoman imperial coinage for centuries.
