| 背面描述 | Central field displays the denomination LIRE 20 in two lines within an open wreath of laurel and olive branches, tied at the base with a ribbon bow. The mint mark 'B' for Bologna appears below the wreath. The circular legend REGIE PROVINCIE DELL'EMILIA arcs around the periphery, referencing the provisional government of the Emilian Provinces. A beaded border frames the design. |

The United Provinces of Central Italy existed for less than a year — a provisional government formed in 1859 after Napoleon III's campaign against Austria left Tuscany, Modena, Parma, and the Papal Legations effectively stateless. This Bologna issue was struck as that provisional authority maneuvered toward annexation by Piedmont-Sardinia, a plebiscite achieving that result in March 1860 by margins exceeding 99%.
The brevity of the issuing authority makes this among the shortest-lived gold coinages in Italian numismatic history. Gigante lists it as the single rarest entry in the series.
