Obverse description The three towers of San Marino — the Guaita, Cesta, and Montale — rising from a rocky outcrop at centre, with radiating lines emanating from behind the fortifications to suggest sunlight. The denomination L. 20 appears prominently in the lower field, with the date 1978 below. The encircling legend REPVBBLICA DI SAN MARINO runs around the periphery in Latin script. The engraver's name MONASSI is inscribed in small characters beneath the central device.
