Obverse description The papal coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting the tiara surmounting the crossed keys of Saint Peter above a shield charged with the Farnese fleurs-de-lis. The arms are rendered in high relief with fine heraldic detail. A circular legend reading PAVLVS VI P M surrounds the device along the upper arc, with the regnal year indication AN XIII completing the legend to the right. The entire design is enclosed within a rope-style border.

Additional information

The 1975 Vatican coinage was issued as part of the Holy Year — Anno Santo — declared by Paul VI, one of only a handful of Jubilee years to fall during his fifteen-year pontificate. Vatican mint output during Holy Years typically rises sharply to meet pilgrim demand for sets, and 1975 was no exception, with the full annual proof and uncirculated sets heavily oriented toward the collector market rather than circulation.

Paul VI had by this point largely withdrawn from public appearances following the 1970 attempt on his life in Manila.
