Obverse description Left-facing portrait bust of Pope John XXIII wearing the papal camauro and richly embroidered vestments, rendered in high relief with fine sculptural detail by engraver Aurelio Mistruzzi. The effigy occupies the central field, with the papal collar and mozetta depicted with careful attention to textile texture. The circular Latin legend arcs around the upper periphery, naming the pontiff and his title. The field surrounding the bust is smooth and unadorned, allowing the portrait to dominate the composition.
