The Deveboynu lighthouse sits at the southwestern tip of the Datça Peninsula — one of the most geographically isolated points on the Turkish Aegean coast — and has guided maritime traffic through the notoriously narrow passage between the peninsula and the Greek island of Symi since the late Ottoman period. Turkey's Darphane has issued a recurring lighthouse series in sterling silver since the mid-2010s, each coin dedicated to a specific navigational structure in Turkish waters.
