The "Borsa Istanbul" series was introduced as Turkey's central exchange rebranded and restructured following the 2013 merger of the Istanbul Stock Exchange, the Istanbul Gold Exchange, and the Derivatives Exchange of Turkey into a single consolidated bourse. The Turkish State Mint has issued silver commemoratives tied to financial institutions with increasing frequency since the mid-2010s, partly as a response to domestic demand for hard-asset collectibles during periods of lira depreciation.
