Bayezid II ruled from 1481 to 1512 and is remembered partly for his decision to admit Sephardic Jews expelled from Spain in 1492, a move that brought skilled craftsmen, physicians, and merchants into Ottoman cities at a moment when the empire was consolidating control across Anatolia and the Balkans. The Turkish Mint's commemorative series drawing on Ottoman sultans has been issued intermittently since the early 2000s, with Bayezid appearing relatively late in the program.
The .925 fineness aligns with the modern Turkish mint's standard for collector silver issues rather than any historical Ottoman monetary weight.
