| 正面描述 | Against a mirror-finish field, a central wreath composed of wheat ears on the left and olive branches on the right frames the denomination numeral '20' above the legend 'Türk Lirası' and the mint year '2021'. The Turkish crescent-and-star emblem appears at the top of the wreath, and the Darphane mint mark is positioned at the base. The surrounding legend reads 'TÜRKİYE CUMHURİYETİ' in the upper arc and 'REPUBLIC OF TURKEY' in the lower arc, both separated by raised dots. |

The Battle of Manzikert in 1071 was the engagement that effectively ended Byzantine control of Anatolia. Seljuk forces under Sultan Alp Arslan defeated and captured Emperor Romanos IV Diogenes — an outcome so politically destabilizing that Romanos was deposed before he could even be ransomed home. The Turkic settlement of Anatolia that followed over the next century laid the territorial foundation for what eventually became the Ottoman state, and later the Turkish Republic.
Turkey has issued commemoratives marking this battle at intervals since the 1970s. The 2021 release coincides with the approaching 950th anniversary observed in 2021.
