Afyonkarahisar's designation as a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy in 2017 prompted a run of commemorative issues from Darphane, of which this is among the more directly themed. The city's culinary reputation rests heavily on its kaymak — a clotted cream produced from water buffalo milk — and its lokum, both of which have genuine protected geographic indication status under Turkish law.
