The Canadian Bank Note Company has handled Honduran currency production across multiple series, and this 2000-dated 20 Lempira note falls within a period when Honduras was still recovering economically from Hurricane Mitch, which devastated the country in October 1998 and caused an estimated seven billion dollars in damage — roughly equivalent to Honduras's entire GDP at the time. The central bank continued issuing notes through the reconstruction period with no interruption to the series numbering.
Watermark-only security on a note from this year is relatively sparse by contemporary standards, though consistent with the broader P#83 specification throughout its print run.
