Banca Fantezista a Romaniei is not a monetary authority — this is a privately produced fantasy note, a collector item with no legal tender status at any point in its existence. Designer Dani Crisan produced it in 2024 as part of a growing Romanian tradition of fantasy issues that engage with regional identity, in this case Craiova, the capital of Oltenia.
Fantasy notes occupy an awkward catalog space: not forgeries, not exonumia in the strict sense, but deliberate creative objects that borrow the grammar of banknote production. Paper substrate rather than polymer keeps production accessible outside security printing facilities.
