Fantasy or "artistical" banknotes occupy a grey zone in notaphily — not legal tender, not counterfeits, but deliberate creative objects that borrow the grammar of currency. Dani Crisan is a Romanian graphic designer who has produced several pieces in this vein, the "Banca Fantezista a Romaniei" being a tongue-in-cheek invented institution whose name translates roughly as the Fantastical Bank of Romania.
Catalog value is negligible in monetary terms. Interest lies entirely in the design work and in what the piece says about the collector market for Romanian-themed novelty issues in the 2020s.
