A man-faced bull standing to the right, a common deity symbol associated with the Samnite peoples of central Italy, with a Nike or Victory figure flying above, crowning the bull. The legend AISERNINO appears in the exergue below the bull, identifying the issuing city of Aesernia. The design is executed in a vigorous, provincial Italic style characteristic of Samnite bronze coinage of the 3rd century BC. |
