Myanmar's Security Printing Works, established in Rangoon after the 1988 military crackdown that ousted the civilian government and renamed the country, produced this note entirely within the junta's controlled printing infrastructure — a deliberate policy of the State Law and Order Restoration Council to keep currency production domestic and free from foreign scrutiny.
The 1994 series marked the consolidation of SLORC-era monetary policy following years of demonetization trauma, most notoriously the 1987 cancellations of the 25, 35, and 75 Kyat notes — moves that wiped out personal savings overnight and helped trigger the pro-democracy uprising the following year.
