Additional information

Malawi's 1990s wildlife series was issued during a period when the Reserve Bank was actively courting foreign collector markets to generate hard currency — the domestic economy offered little demand for silver commemoratives priced far above average monthly wages. KM#35 falls within that program, which drew on CITES-listed species to give the coins international relevance beyond Malawian borders.
