Harrison and Sons printed Zambia's banknotes from their High Wycombe facility through much of the post-independence period, and this series was produced during one of the country's most turbulent economic stretches. By 1989, Zambia had been through a decade of copper price collapse, chronic foreign debt, and IMF austerity disputes that culminated in Kenneth Kaunda's government unilaterally breaking from the Fund in 1987 — only to seek re-engagement two years later as conditions worsened.
The co-signatures of Nkhoma and Bussiere place this note within a narrow window of that crisis management period. P#32 is the last 20 Kwacha type before denomination pressures forced the series upward.
